OUR STORY

Meandering Maker Outdoor is a small family owned and operated business founded in 2018.

Greetings fellow adventurer! I'm Owner and Maker Guy Dineen. Let me tell you about my company...

I've been an outdoorsman since before I knew there was a name for it. I grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains hiking, fishing, floating, catching crawdads in the creek behind our house and spending as much time in the woods as I could.

In 2018 I was looking to stretch my knowledge and skills and started looking around for some better quality gear than the big box things I'd been using for years. At the top of my list was a great pack. I wanted something traditional, rugged and functional. And also beautiful.

I searched and searched. I found cheap packs by no-name brands that were obviously low quality: thin leather, plated hardware, thin fabric, and just.... ugly. Even among the well-known brands that I have great respect for I didn't see anything that combined time-honored materials and construction techniques with special attention to design detail.

So I decided I'd do it myself.

"I searched and searched. I found cheap packs by no-name brands that were obviously low quality: thin leather, plated hardware, thin fabric, and just.... ugly"

I'd never even touched a sewing machine. But like so many of us who love spending time in nature because of the many opportunities for creative ingenuity it provides, I figured the worst that could happen was I'd learn something new. With a $50 "industrial" sewing machine and some substandard canvas from a random website I willed my first pack into existence.

I've been designing and building heritage gear ever since. My determination to offer the best possible product and customer experience never stops. My designs are constantly evolving in response to my own extensive testing as well as feedback and ideas from customers.

Today the Meandering Maker represents exceptional quality, longevity and stunning good looks. The product line is ever expanding and includes not only packs but unique carriers of many types, shoulder bags, pouches, and accessories all made from the same basic ingredients: heavy-duty waxed canvas, top tier leather, and solid brass hardware. All the components of my gear are sourced from American companies like Weaver Leather who have been providing the best raw materials to artisans for decades.
