Zipper Pouch in Main Compartment

11" x 8" (28cm x 20cm) zipped pouch sewn on the interior back panel approximate 2" (5cm) below the top of the pack. 

Zipper Pouch in Lid

Zipped pocket giving you the entire underneath the entire lid. Lined with lightweight waxed canvas in Orange. 

 

Back Support Sleeve

Large sleeve sewn to the interior back panel of the pack designed to hold a pad, plastic sheet, or any item used to help give structure to the pack to increase comfort and stability. Sleeve is the full width of the pack. The height of the sleeve is approximately the height of the pack mins 5" (18cm) or just below the leather piece the shoulder straps are riveted to.

Matching Sternum Strap

Leather 3/4" (2cm) buckle strap designed to loop through the D-rings standard on larger Meandering Maker packs (currently all versions of the M3 and M3 Junior).

Leather and hardware will be matched to those choices on your pack. 

Matching Bed Roll Straps

Pair of 1" leather buckle straps designed specifically for lashing items such as blankets and skins to the tabs found on the top and bottom of all Meandering Maker packs as well as the bottom of the Gen II Haversack.

An Impenetrable Force Field Around Your Gear

The sky is blue, a light breeze whispers through the trees, the air is crisp and dry. You are in harmony withe nature. Then an unexpected storm turns your zen outing into a scramble to keep your gear from getting soaked, possibly bringing your trip to a quick and chilly end.

But you're not scrambling. You're carrying your M3 Junior Rugged Twill. You know anything inside will be safe and dry because it's build from heavy duty 17 oz waxed twill, stuffed with more elements-repelling wax than your standard waxed canvas, making it virtually water proof.

If your pack hits the ground it's got an additional barrier of 4oz bridle leather to keep the mud and dirt even further from that down sleeping bag that does not react will be getting soaked. The straps are bridle leather, too, but they're 10 oz strap leather nearly 1/4" (0.6 cm) thick so you can count on them to keep the lids shut against any attack nature can throw at you. Solid brass roller buckles make for smooth operation even one-handed.

The M3 Junior Rugged Twill was specifically designed to give you endless options for carrying and organizing all the gear you'll need for a multi-day stay in the woods. Four outside pouches with buckled lids keep the quick-grab stuff handy without opening the main pack. A generously-sized axe sleeve will accomodate most axes from hatchets to cruisers. Four 3/4" (2 cm) D-rings are ready for clipping things like gloves, a lantern, GPS device, and anything else you can dream up front and center for instant access.

Ultra thick shoulder pads - a hallmark of all Meandering Maker packs and shoulder bags - wrapped in soft but durable chrome tan garment leather will make you think you're carrying half the weight.

A full compliment of add-ons can give you even more room, comfort, and stability. And of course all Meandering Maker Rugged Twill gear is available in matching colors and finishes so you can match up your entire MM kit.

Easily the best pack I’ve ever had!

I have a lot of backpacks at home - but this one here is something else!

Rright from the unboxing, I was really impressed with the quality. I’ve watched almost all the YouTube videos about MM’s packs, but seeing and touching it in person is a whole different experience. The level of thought and detail that went into this pack is immediately obvious. You can tell it’s designed to be both practical and comfortable, with clever solutions everywhere you look.

For example, one side pocket has a space behind it that’s open all the way through, making it easy to slide in something larger like a paddle or bow, while the other side pocket is closed to hold shorter items securely. Additionally, the two large outside pockets each have smaller pockets on their exterior, which are perfect for storing smaller items and keeping them within easy reach. You can really tell how much care and attention went into this pack -it’s like everything has a purpose and works together perfectly :)
I was a little worried I’d miss having a hip belt since I’m so used to using one, but the pack sits high on the back, and the shoulder straps are so comfortable that I honestly don’t feel like I need one!!
I took the M3 Junior out for a 1.5-hour walk this morning with around 16 kilos (35 pounds) in it, and it was really comfortable! I used a little folding mat (the German BW Faltisomatte) at the back of the backpack, just like MM suggested in one of the videos, and it worked perfectly.

One of the things I really like about this pack is the flexibility to sort of build your own inner frame to suit your needs. For me, the folding mat works super well and adds just the right amount of structure and support.

Overall, I’m really happy with the M3 Junior. I’ll write another review after I’ve used it for a few months, but first impressions are excellent.

One thing is for sure - this pack is made to last. I can already tell it’s going to outlive me, and I’ll be able to pass it down to my future kid, Bushcraftsman Junior :D
